Housing Counseling

If you have received a request for a resolution conference, you are required to consult with an OHCS-approved housing counselor prior to the date of the scheduled resolution conference. Housing counseling is an important part of Oregon's Foreclosure Avoidance Program. Housing counselors serve to evaluate the homeowner's financial situation, educate clients on the program and foreclosure process, and help determine eligibility for a number of foreclosure avoidance options. Counselors can also provide credit counseling and give tips on how to manage money and make small but impactful budgetary corrections.

Whether you received a request for a resolution conference from your lender or requested a conference on your own initiative, your housing counselor will work with you throughout the process to assist you in obtaining documents, completing documents and forms, and uploading required documents to the online system. They will also be available to review your lender's required documents with you once they are available in the online system. Depending on their availability, your housing counselor may attend the resolution conference with you in person to serve as an advocate and aid in the discussion on foreclosure workout options.
